Young Street

The business part of town started on Young Street but today on Young Street things are different than they were a hundred years ago. In 1892 street lamps were installed on Young Street. Young Street was paved in 1923. There were many businesses like McLeod Mercantile on Young Street from 1918-1938 and Soy Drug Company which began in 1870’s South and Sixth Street. Years later it was moved to the east side of Farmers State Bank at 601 Young Street. In 1948 business was moved next to 611 Young Street. In 1953 there was a fire. Many businesses are still on Young Street today.
